Linux on VPC

Using OS 10.4.3, VPC 7.0.2; wired to an AirPort express module (did not get wireless to work), VPC set to Virtual Switch (Shared did not seem to work), Debian "business-card" from debian.org.

FC4 installed but crashed on first boot. Word has it must be compiled for MMX not Pro, (i586?).

Gentoo not getting network connection, might work wired and Virtual Switch, I don't know.

FreeBSD stalls on canned kernel boot after detecting VGA, but goes on, fails to get network for isntall. Also wired w/ Virtual Switch might be the solution.

Started kernel compile 12:36 pm
still workign 10:38 pm
kernel crashed cause make install does not make initrd. used /usr/sbin/mkinitrd -o /boot/iinitr.img-2.6.13 2.6.13 or was it /usr/lib/2.6.13?

At the same time changed ext3 betwtin Y (compiled in) and M (module). Finally booted but no network, eth0 not setup, tried to rebuild modules, w/ TULIP enabled.
