In this course, we will:

• Learn binary number representations
• Learn basic digital electronics
• Learn basic microcontroller architecture
• Learn the PIC assembly language and architecture
• Do projects with the PIC
• Relate our experience with the PIC to other microprocessor assembly languages and architectures

The course uses the PIC 16C84 microcontroller. Students are supplied with a PICDEM-1 demonstration board to program and experiment with the PIC 16C84. The program for the 16C84 is downloaded into the microchip by the PICSTART programmer. The PICSTART can also erase and read the PIC 16C84. The PIC has quite a cult following.
