General Math Requirements


Bachelor of Arts Math Requirements

The B.A degree from the College of Arts and Sciences requires 3 to 6 credits in math. B.A. degree candidates who do not place out of MTH 101 must take MTH 101 or 107 during their first year in the college. In addition, all B.A. degree candidates must take one of the following MTH courses: The department offers many precalculus and college algebra courses to help the student achieve these requirements.

Bachelor of Science Math Requirements

The B.S. degree from the College of Arts and Sciences requires 11 to 12 credits in math. B.S. degree candidate must earn 11-12 creadits, consisiting of two semesters of Calculus: MTH 110-112, MTH 111-112, MTH 131-132 and The department offers many precalculus and college algebra courses to help the student achieve these requirements.

Bachelor of Architecture Math Requirements

The Bachelor of Architecture degree requires MTH 109. For more information, contact

Precalculus and College Algebra

The department uses both SAT scores and special tests to evaluate the student's preparation. The department offers these precalculus courses:

College of Engineering

The College of Engineering requires that students complete MTH 110 and MTH 112 during the freshmen year. All incoming freshmen in the College of Engineering will be required to take the Mathematics Placement Exam.

Transfer students who are not transferring any calculus courses will be required to take the Mathematics Placement Exam upon entry.

School of Business

The School of Business expects students to complete a course in Business Calculus (MAS 110) by the end of the freshmen year. Students who are not placed in MAS 110 initially will be required to complete MTH 107 in addition to MAS 110.

Transfer students who are not transferring any calculus course will be required to take the Mathematics Placement Exam upon entry.


School of Communication

The Bachelor of Science degree in Communication requires that students complete one of the following math courses during the freshmen year:

School of Education

The Bachelor of Science degree in Education requires that students complete MTH 101 or MTH 107 during the freshmen year. In addition, all degree candidates must complete one of the following math courses:

School of Music

Performance majors in the School of Music must demonstrate proficiency at the MTH 101 level. This proficiency is determined by the student satisfactorily completing MTH 101 OR by the student's exemption from MTH 101 on the basis of math SAT or ACT scores or score on the Mathematics Placement Exam.

School of Nursing

The School of Nursing requires that students complete MTH101.
